In Pirate Lake it dominates and it's good, its smooth, smokey and peaty. It joins a favorite list and while it wont be a regular part of my rotation I definitely will smoke it when I need something different in my smoking rotation. Most other cuts wouldn't work with this much Latakia. Irish Breakfast tea goes very well with this. Pack it in a small bowl, because if you smoke too much of it, it will overwhelm your taste buds and you will be racing to the finish line. Tin note - Very earthy/musty Lights easy and burns well. A rich warm real tobacco flavour bath. a booming amount of latakia, some burley and orientals. And the smoke has a creamy quality that coats your mouth and nose and everything in a 3 yard radius. If latakia is your thing, you absolutely must try this tobacco. Ex cigar smokers might enjoy this more than not. A smooth, robust blend with lots (75%!) Therephore,it will compose mixtures simillar to "your own English type" Also,is a tobacco of the type that i like: is not strong in nicotine, bu strong il flavour, scent and taste. Conclusion: A very interesting and heavy blend. I'll also add that this tobacco stays with you for a long, long time. . So, for all the dark brooding color range, somewhat ominous tin aroma and all the bluster; this blend smokes in a very civilized way and I have no problem recommending it to fellow smokers. Another winner from C&D. In this case, Burley doesnt help the blend and it is necessary like smoking pure Latakia. I highly recommend it. And it makes my beard smell really cool afterwords. How much latakia is too much? The room note is very strong. The smokiness is front and centre throughout. I can't get it to bite, and the presentation (though messy to prepare), is outstanding. It is smooth, no harshness at all. I just want more and more. That being said, it is still something to go into with your eyes open. Ive had a few tobaccos from C&D and this is by far my favorite. The Latakia is of inferior quality and the blend opposes itself to the point of the abusing the poor sucker who smokes it. The tobacco came apart quite easily when loading up the pipe. I had a very tough time finding any other flavor to come through from the Burley or Turkish tobaccos. I think the blend meets the goal of a fine tobacco that is easy for most to enjoy. Very creamy, smooth in the mouth and leaves a nice coating for you to enjoy for an hour. Deep flavor but not over powering. Right now I have it blended 50/50 with Prince Albert which mellows the smokiness a little. Those of you who enjoy latakia-forward blends are in for a real treat though, as the Orientals and burley add just enough balance to keep Pirate Kake from being a one-dimensional lat bomb. If you're looking for a delicious lat bomb then PK is your blend, but if you're looking for a lat bomb with a stronger Turkish presence I highly recommend Star of the East Flake. It is rich. It has a herbal/ clove undertone to the smokiness that I get in Syrian Latakia. Stouter than most of those "late evening" blends and a great way to end the day.
